Read below for more details
- Natural feeding Assist babies in your care to develop a natural feeding action, a comfortable cycle of sucking, swallowing and breathing (SSB). The unique Sepal venting system adapts and responds to an infant's hunger and only allows milk to flow when they suck.
- Helping an infant attach effectively
Infants must have a good attachment/seal on a teat to generate the vacuum they need to draw milk. Sepal teats have been designed to follow the natural shape of an infant's mouth. - Milk only flows when an infant sucks
The Sepal system adapts to generate an appropriate level of venting, so that milk only flows when an infant sucks, ensuring that milk will not enter an infant's mouth accidently. - Continuous feeding
This controlled venting system is unaffected by overtightening which can cause collapse of traditionally vented teats. This creates a stable bottle environment and consistent flow rate which allows a continuous feeding cycle with no need for an infant to detach and interrupt their feed.

How to select the right teat
Here at Sepal, we offer 14 different variants across the range. Follow our simple pathways to select which teats in the range are suitable for the infants in your care.
1. How old is the infant?
Depending upon age or weight, choose the ideal teat size for the infant.
The size is depicted by the letter on the teat collar
2. Assess their feeding skills
Teat flow rate should support positive feeding and manage risks.
Flow rate is highlighted in the colour of the teat collar
Extra Small Teat Range
Infants under 2.5kg
Sepal Extra Small teats were designed to support preterm infants, in particular those weighing under 2.5kg.
This teat size is comfortable in a tiny mouth and offers the universal benefits of the Sepal contours.
Depending upon feeding behaviour and clinical considerations select one of the FIVE Extra Small teats.
General Use Teat - Extra Small Teat Extra Slow Flow is the starting point if no swallowing difficulties have been identified.
No Flow Teat - Extra Small Teat No Flow can be the first step to supporting non-nutritive sucking for infants who are nil orally.
Reduced Feed Teat - Extra Small Teat Ultra Slow Flow provides an option for those infants struggling to manage respiration and feeding.
Thickened Feed Teat - Extra Small Teat Slow Flow provides an option for infants having their feed modified. Alternately it offers an option for strong feeders who are still small in size. For an even faster flow rate the Extra Small Teat Medium Flow provides an option for infants having an extremely thick feed.
Small Teat Range
Full term infants or those over 2.5kg
Sepal Small teats were designed to support infants from birth to 5 months of age.
This small teat size is comfortable in a newborn's mouth and offers the universal benefits of the Sepal contours. If an infant exhibits a strong gag reflex however, select a teat from the Extra Small range (Extra Small Teat Slow Flow).
Otherwise, depending upon feeding behaviour and clinical considerations select one of the FOUR Small teats.
General Use Teat - Small Teat Slow Flow is the starting point if no swallowing difficulties have been identified.
Reduced Feed Teat - Small Teat Extra Slow Flow provides an option for infants who are struggling to manage respiration and feeding. If there are concerns that this is still too fast opt for the Small Teat Ultra Slow Flow.
Thickened Feed Teat - Small Teat Medium Flow provides an option for infants having their feed modified. Alternately it offers an option for strong feeders who are assessed as safe on the faster flow rate.
Medium Teat Range
Infants 4 - 9 months of age
As infants grow, we advise that they transition to a larger teat to ensure that the universal benefits of the Sepal contours are experienced.
At 4 - 5 months they should be ready for the Medium teat unless they are exhibiting a strong gag reflex. In this situation select a teat from the Small range (Small Teat Medium Flow).
Otherwise, depending upon feeding behaviour and clinical considerations select one of the THREE Medium teats.
General Use Teat - Medium Teat Medium Flow is the starting point if no swallowing difficulties have been identified.
Reduced Feed Teat - Medium Teat Slow Flow provides an option for infants who are struggling to coordinate their feeding i.e. dysphagia.
Thickened Feed Teat - Medium Teat Fast Flow provides an option for infants having their feed modified. Alternately it offers an option for strong feeders who are assessed as safe on the faster flow rate.
Large Teat Range
Infants 8 - 12+ months of age
As infants grow further, we advise they make the final transition to our largest teat to ensure that the universal benefits of the Sepal contours are experienced.
At 8 - 9 months they should be ready for the Large teat unless they are exhibiting a strong gag reflex. In this situation select a teat from the Medium range (Medium Teat Fast Flow).
Otherwise, depending upon feeding behaviour and clinical considerations select one of the TWO Large teats.
General Use Teat - Large Teat Fast Flow is the starting point if no swallowing difficulties have been identified.
Reduced Feed Teat - Large Teat Medium Flow provides an option for infants who are struggling to coordinate their feeding i.e. dysphagia.
